A father is one of the most, if not the most significant figure in a girl’s life–wouldn’t you say?
After all, he paves the way for her future relationships. He is her guiding light. Or he is not.
Either way, the way we view our fathers will affect us for the rest of our lives–whether we want it to or not.
I am blessed to have had a father that has loved, and not just any ole’ regular love, but a love so deep and pure.
For so much of my life, I have thought my dad has had a quality that has restricted him to fully live–but it is that very quality that has caused him to love without limits. And to love fully is to live fully.
I used to call it…
but his description would be a bit different..
…and his translation is right. So thanks dad–thanks for loving me and providing me with not things that will one day waste away, but the thing that lasts forever. You may not know it, but it is because of you (and mom and the Grace of God) that I am who I am.
Because of the way my father has loved me, I am able to understand a little better the love of my Father in Heaven. I don’t think I will ever fully accept that love, until I arrive at home
but until then, I will try
I write this to say Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there–today we celebrate you. A thanks to our dads, grandfathers, Godfathers, significant men in our lives, but more importantly to our Father in Heaven. So here’s to you…Happy Father’s Day, Jesus. I hope I can live a life glorifying to you.
As St. Augustine put it, “The Glory of God is man fully alive”
